2020-2021 COVID - 19 in Karnataka
The first case of the COVID-19 pandemic was confirmed on March 8, 2020 in the Indian state of Karnataka. Two days later, the state became the first in India to invoke the provisions of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, which are set to last for a year, to curb the spread of the disease.
Further, to contain community transmission of the virus, the central government decided to lock down the entire country for an initial period of 21 days beginning March 25 and later the Lockdown period was extended.
